What We Do
Our mission is simple; we want to introduce you to props. Whether you’re an award-winning stylist in search of that perfect taxidermied koala or a total novice who just wants to know more, we’re here to help you.
Why do it? Because we’re props people. It’s as simple as that.
Plink Blog.
Plink is a design blog with a difference because we are 100% Art Department focused. (You might even call us obsessed). We provide a trippy smorgasbord of regularly updated content designed to inspire and inform anyone with an interest in props, sets and design. Perhaps you’d like to meet our Plink Scouts? They can’t think of anything they’d rather be doing on a foggy Monday morning than scouring the backstreets (and front streets) of London for unusual items and exceptional suppliers. Their top finds from the realm of the gorgeous, useful and bizarre appear weekly on the blog and provide a prop-centric walking tour of the capital city.
Our Plink Panel, made up of a nice but scary group of established creatives, brings a professional perspective to the blog with insight into everything from inspiration to trend. For those who continue to dream, we provide a valuable glimpse behind the notoriously hard to lift red curtain with Plink Access: unique video footage captured on the sets of major shoots. Quite unlike any behind-the-scenes you’ve seen before, our cameraman is out to make props the stars of the show. Or maybe you fancy meeting some of the most talented creative practitioners working in the Art Department today?
The Plink Meets podcast interviews are crammed full of tips, whether you’re looking for ideas about suppliers or simply advice on how to get ahead without getting a big head. (Ahem). Our handsome Tool Kit contains some very practical information to help you make the transition from prop fan to professional without too many bloopers along the way. That’s everything from ‘setiquette’ to prop houses; training courses to a downloadable purchase order.
Our Plink Thinks features condense the techie stuff, simmering it down to anything relevant to the Art Department on a bi-monthly basis. Finally – as if that weren’t enough – we like to run the odd competition for all our lovely blog readers. And if that doesn’t make you feel the love, we don’t know what will.
Plink Pro.
For our professional users, we are delighted to offer Plink Pro: a list-based directory containing over 1200 suppliers. Sourced by scouts, subjected to our tough criteria and approved by a panel of established industry professionals, we bring you all the best prop resources that you’ve never heard of, as well as a few old favourites too. Along with comprehensive terms and contact information, we also offer a variety of ‘hush hush’ perks exclusive to our members. Plink Pro is run by professionals for professionals – something we take seriously. It’s free to join but all applications are subject to approval. Not quite there yet? Never fear. Just visit the Plink Panel section for a gander at some freebies.
Someone pointed out to us recently that we might just have created something addictive. Sorry about that. Fortunately, we’ve also made it easy for you to feed your Plink habit. Join us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter or sign up for our monthly newsletter to have the best of Plink sent directly to you.
One last thing you should know before we sign off: there has never ever been a more exciting time to work in props. We believe this wholeheartedly. It’s the reason we, Plink, are here and that we’re all so goddamn excited. The opportunities are endless. If you’re not sure what we’re talking about, well then Plink is the site for you.
